School ActivitiesBook ClubFour years ago I set up the book club. This was to include the children and their parents in choosing their own reading material. It has gone from strength to strength over the years. 
We use two providers - Setanta Book Clubs and Puffin Book Clubs. When an order is placed we receive a percentage of the order as commission. This commission is used in a variety of ways. Some of it is used to stock our class libraries, which in itself enhances the children's reading experience. Setanta also offer Art materials and resource books, some of the teachers often choose this option. In my opinion, the best use of this commission has been in purchasing class copies of certain novels which are read as part of the English curriculum. Examples of this has been when 3rd and 4th class were reading the Iron Man and Private Peaceful or when 5th and 6th class were reading Kensuke's Kingdom. In 09/10 I ordered €1053.60 from Setanta Book Clubs and this has earned us €199. With Puffin Book Club we have earned €309 commission. As you can see, the commission that is earned is a very valuable resource to the school, so THANK YOU the parents, for being so generous.
