School Activities

ICT

Over the past number of years we have fundraised with the intention of upgrading our ICT equipment here in school. A lot of effort and hard work was put in by many people. One of the more daring events was when Ms. McColgan did a parachute jump to raise funds for an Interactive whiteboard.

As part of our Litter and Waste Green flag we hosted a WEEE wheelie bin. All the parents were able to recycle their old electrical equipment. As a result of this collection the school received a remanufactured desktop which was located in the office for 3 years.

The Green Committee also set up a mobile phone recycling facility in school. After collecting 100 phones last year (2008/2009) we received a free laptop from the Meningitis Research Foundation. Again, the following year (2009/2010), we received another free laptop from the same charity, which is now Ms. Cronin's teaching laptop. We are still collecting mobile phones and hope to reach 100 again soon. Please keep sending in the phones!

Something new out of rubbish - great!

In the not so distant past, we had a dedicated computer room with 13 desktops. Each class was timetabled to use the room weekly and this worked effectively, most of the time! With growing numbers in our classes and advances with technology, our poor computer room got closed and changed into a classroom! After a lot of heartache for teachers, (when machines broke down or died, as was often the case) the working desktops got transferred into classrooms and 27 netbooks were purchased.

In 2010, all our classrooms were fitted with ultra short throw projectors. This meant that our 3 mimios could now be maximised and all our classrooms were interactive in some form. This was a really exciting development. In 2011, two of the mimios were upgraded to fully interactive Smartboards. This means that 3 of our classrooms are now fully interactive. We are presently fundraising to upgrade another classroom and hopefully within the next 3 years all our classrooms will have a Smartboard.

As a result our use of ICT has been revolutionised!
